Who we are
|In the autumn of 1876, three
ladies organized a weekly prayer meeting in the south end of Grand Rapids. This
small group of dedicated Christians was the beginning of what eventually became the
present-day St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
At St. Paul's, we seek to preach, teach and practice a faith devoted to justice and peace, responsive to truth contained in the Old and New Testaments, and are concerned for the spiritual growth of all persons.
We are an inclusive church and our members are bound together in fellowship and service by the belief in the central confession of the New Testament, "that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God." (Matthew 16:16)
Our church recognizes the right to exercise freedom of opinion. This principle is a sustaining force in the life of the church. We hold that there should be "in essentials, unity; in opinion, liberty; and in all things; LOVE."
St. Paul's United Methodist Church is a fellowship of Christian believers, called and committed to personal evangelism, spiritual growth and a ministry of love for all of God's creation.
